Sisters of Mary Girlstown - Talisay City Cebu on Youngster Cover!

Just a few hours ago, after attending the last day Anticipated Simbang Gabi Novena Mass at the Chapel of Eucharistic Lord in SM Megamall presided by His Excellency Most Rev. Mylo Hubert C. Vergara, D.D. Bishop of Pasig -  I accidentally passed by St. Pauls and my attention was caught by a magazine on the stand with very familiar faces....3 students of the Sisters of Mary Girlstown - Talisay City Cebu with Sr. Emelan on the cover.

I immediately go inside and grab a copy of it and scan some pages when I get home to share with you.

As I browse the cover story, it highlights the apostolate of the Society of St. Paul, and part of their biblical apostolate is the St. Paul National Bible Quiz. This years' Champion is no less than our very own - Sisters of Mary Girlstown - Cebu.

The National Grand Finals was held at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City last September 14, 2011. They competed against 6 other grand finalists and won Php 50,000 and become the 2nd St. Paul National Bible Quiz Champion. CONGRATULATIONS!

Grab a copy of the Youngster magazine now by visiting St. Pauls outlets. It's the Dec2011 - Jan2012 issue.

Grand Marian Procession 2011

Yesterday, 4th of December 2011 @ 4 PM the Annual Grand Marian Procession as part of the Feast of the Immaculate Conception was held in Intramuros. Despite heavy and intermittent rains, it does not hamper the celebration. It was still grand as the previous years.

***
About the Festivity:

From the six images that initially made up the first Marian procession of the Cofradia de la Inmaculada Concepcion in December, 1980, the procession has grown through the years.

The annual procession on Dec. 4 at 4 p.m. around Intramuros will have 90 carrozas carrying  the various images of the Virgin Mary under her different titles.

Don Ado Escudero, chair of the comite de festejos, said the first procession tried to revive the traditions handed down by the Spaniards in Intramuros, especially the procession in honor of the Inmaculada Concepcion. Jaime Laya, then administrator of the Intramuros Administration (IA), suggested the participation of the military in the religious procession in keeping with tradition.  The Cofradia sought the help of Helen Espino, wife of Gen. Romeo Espino, chief of staff at that time of the AFP. Since then, the AFP military brass bands have been participating.

This year, the procession will again be assisted by the Intramuros Administration, now headed by Jose Capistrano. Marian devotees around the country are expected to bring their own venerated images, such as Our Lady of Piat  (Piat, Cagayan Valley),  the Namacpacan (Luna, La Union), Ina Poon Bato (Botolan, Zambalez), the Manaoag (Pangasinan),  Soledad de Porta Vaga (Cavite City), Nuestra Señora de Dolores de Turumba (Pakil, Laguna), La Salette (Silang, Cavite), Our Lady of the Holy Spirit (Guimaras, Iloilo); Mary Mediatrix of All Grace (Lipa, Batangas); and  the Caysasay (Taal, Batangas).

Greetings from Guatemala with Love - Just sharing!

Letter & pictures from Hna. Teresita Prudente, SM - Superiora Local of "Villa de los Niños" Zona 6, Guatemala - Just sharing to my fellow alumni of the Sisters of Mary School Boystown and Girlstown Philippines! The message is for all of us - GRADUATES! :)

***

Dear Al,

"Let us serve the Lord with joy!"

Thank you for writing me a beautiful letter. I am happy to know that many graduates are asking about me. Rest assured that although I am physically absent from my native land what matters most is that in prayers we are always united. I thank God for having you as my spiritual son in-Christ whose always concern for the well-being of the Sisters of Mary and its bountiful fruits---the graduates! I am so proud that many graduates are actively involved in the activities of the alumni. Keep up the spirit! Fr. Al is proud about you.

Always remember that the future of the Sisters of Mary Boystown and Girlstown which our dear Fr. Al had founded with so much love and sacrifice is in the hands of the graduates. Be faithful children of Fr. Al until the end... You are what you are now because of the grace of God through the life of our founder. Do not forget that now is the time to return all the blessings you have received from God. "Freely you have received, freely give!" "The more you give, the more you will receive!"

You have been blessed by the Lord in many wonderful ways, now try to share the blessings to others. You might not be able to contribute big things but you can share "something"...your time, your talent, your prayers, your sacrifices but above all things by being "candles" that will light the world which is depraved with darkness due to lack of love and concern by men to others and due to sin.

Be firm in your faith. The world needs young and valiant persons with good moral values and principles to convert others. The church needs your good examples more than ever.

Our Lord needs your eyes to see the suffering of others, your ears to hear the cries of the graduates in pain, your heart to feel their pains and your hands to walk with them. It is love that will make God happy, it is your love to one another that will elevate Fr. Al to the altars...in a word to be a SAINT!

Pray for all the Sisters of Mary. Offer more of your prayers to the sisters in mission country. Pray, pray, pray always!

EVERYONE IN LIFE HAS A HERO...Someone they look up to and try to be like, one day. DEAR CHILDREN OF FR. AL...MAY FR. AL BE YOUR HERO, YOUR ROLE MODEL.

You are always remembered in my daily prayers and sacrifices.

May God bless us always!

Sincerely yours in Jesus & Mary,
Sr. Teresita Prudente, SM

Do you have the real courage to follow Jesus? Join the Sisters of Mary...

OUR PURPOSE is to follow Christ more fervently in praying and more closely in proclaiming the Kingdom, by doing good to people; concretely by providing free:

- educational/vocational welfare for the underprivileged children / youth
- medical care to the sick and the dying
- shelter services to the homeless and helpless.

If you have a strong desire to serve the Lord and help the poorest of the poor and fulfill the message of the Virgin of the Poor of relieving the suffering, we invite you to join us.

"LET US SERVE THE LORD WITH JOY..."

These words from the Psalms are the motto of the Sisters of Mary.

The Sisters of Mary was founded in Korea in 1964 by the Servant of God, Msgr. Al Schwartz. Their purpose is to serve the poorest of the poor in the Name of Christ.

The Sisters of Mary can be described as "contemplatives in action". That is, they strive to unite the vocations of Martha and Mary. Their active life of service to the poor is balanced by three hours of daily prayer and contemplation.

After approximately four years of formation, the Sisters profess the vows of poverty, chastity, obedience and service to the poor. These vows are renewed each year at the end of the annual retreat.

Through the invitation of the ecclesiastical and government authorities, the sisters have expanded from Korea to the Philippines, Mexico, Guatemala, Brazil and recently in Honduras. At present, they care for tens of thousands of needy children and adults in their charity boarding schools, Day Care Centers, Clinics and Hospitals.

With the inspiration of the Virgin of the Poor, who appeared in Banneux, Belgium, they do their best to fulfill her message of relieving the suffering of the poor. The material and spiritual needs of people continue to increase, thus there is an urgent need for more generous and dedicated young women to join them in this life of service and prayer.

Candidates should be between the ages of 18 and 35; college or high school graduate; be in good health; and above all, have a sincere desire to serve the poor with the heart, mind and spirit of Christ.

Come now and join them, please write, phone or visit personally:
